CHALLENGE SETUP

Ruleset

Choose the ruleset you want to play. Any ruleset-specific values shown here take priority over the shared rulebook below.

Extreme (5*)

Game setup: Permadeath, Extreme difficulty, all sliders maximum, Disable Tutorial

  • This is the defaulted ruleset.
  • Collect at least 5 glyphs before using a Planetary Portal.
  • Teleporters can not be used
  • Remove all Whispering Eggs before entering Abandoned Buildings.
  • Entering of regular Space Stations is forbidden.
  • Outlaw Stations and Abandoned Stations may each be visited only once.
  • Leave the system immediately after exiting Abandoned Stations
  • Leave the system immediately after attacking freighters or surrounding cargo pods.
  • Travel through the Galactic Center with an Interceptor, unless the Corvette addendum is active.

The Premise

You are a fugitive on the run from the Galactic Authorities. Your own backstory is part of the challenge: perhaps you were framed, perhaps you are innocent, or perhaps you really are the criminal they say you are.

Your ship has been destroyed during the pursuit and you have crash-landed on a planet. The authorities believe they have you trapped. Your goal is to disappear from the Galactic Network, rebuild from almost nothing and eventually escape Euclid through the Galactic Center.

Honor System Rules

This challenge relies on roleplay and self-enforcement. The game will not enforce every restriction for you, so the point is to play within the rules rather than look for loopholes around them.

Forbidden

  • No duplication, glitching, save-scumming or other cheating.
  • The starter ship is considered completely destroyed. It may not be repaired, flown or used for value. You may exchange it for a crashed ship simply to remove it from your ship list, provided no Units are gained from the exchange.
  • No story progression, except where the selected ruleset specifically permits a limited mission step.
  • No Space Anomaly. For the roleplay, Ariadne’s imposter can report you to the authorities.
  • Do not use Trading Posts, Planetary Archives, normal inhabited buildings, Galactic Trade Terminals or freighters unless the selected ruleset explicitly says otherwise.
  • You may not own a freighter.

Allowed

  • Outlaw trading: Trade with pilots who land nearby or contact you during flight.
  • Outlaw Stations: They may be used within the limits of the selected ruleset. Traffic in and out must be done with a Solar Ship.
  • Abandoned buildings and systems: Use them only within the restrictions of the selected ruleset, including any Whispering Egg requirement.
  • Planetary Portals: They become available once you have collected the number of glyphs required by the selected ruleset.
  • Base building: Allowed only in Pirate, Empty and Abandoned Systems, and the base must be built inside a cave.
  • Uploading discoveries: The No Man’s Sky discovery servers are not treated as part of the Galactic Network for this challenge.

Clarifications

  • The Ruleset panel above is the authoritative source for anything that changes between Easy, Medium, Ambitious, Hard, Extreme and Insane.
  • If a Ruleset value conflicts with a shared rule on this page, the selected Ruleset takes priority.
  • Signal Boosters, Save Beacons, Waypoint Beacons, crashed freighters and Derelict Freighters are allowed unless a selected Ruleset states otherwise.
  • If the selected Ruleset requires an Interceptor for the Galactic Center, enabling the corvette addendum allows the Corvette to replace it.
  • If the selected Ruleset requires an Solar ship to enter a Outlaw station, enabling the corvette addendum allows the Corvette to replace it.

Objectives

  1. Rebuild from the crash without returning to the Galactic Network.
  2. Recover the glyphs required by your selected Ruleset.
  3. Use a Planetary Portal once your Ruleset permits it.
  4. Reach the Galactic Center and leave Euclid while remaining within the selected Ruleset.

Escaping Euclid completes The Fugitive.

Rule Breaking

If you break a rule, even accidentally, scrap your current ship and everything stored in it. Any items gained from scrapping the ship must also be deleted. Then engage the Sentinels and destroy a Sentinel Dreadnought before you are allowed to escape the system.

Fugitive Corvette Addendum

You may add Corvette construction to the challenge, but the vessel must be treated as an unregistered ship assembled from salvaged technology.

Unlocking Corvette Construction

  • Recover a Corvette Part from a Derelict Freighter before building a Corvette.
  • For the challenge, that recovered part represents the salvaged black box required to unlock Corvette construction. The black box is a roleplay concept, not a separate in-game item.

Construction Restrictions

  • Do not construct the Corvette in a regular Space Station.
  • Construction is permitted at Outlaw Stations or Abandoned System Stations.
